Your
father has brought shame on the great ancestral
name by backing another family in the recent civil war.
Your grandfather and generations before had been the
chief engineers of Pharaoh. But now, your family lands
and fortune have been forfeit to more loyal and worthy
families by the new Pharaoh, Mentuhotep. However,
Mentuhotep has not forgotten the great skill
of your family. As a wise ruler, he is not so reckless
as to discard skilled engineers. Thus, he has decided
to give you a chance to redeem your family honor and
gain his favor. Your father was not so lucky to be given
a second chance.
Bahariya Oasis has long been a spot for caravans
to water their animals, but the water is unfit for man
to drink and will cause great sickness. Mentuhotep has
recently caused a well built nearby that can provide
safe water to expand a new settlement to be called Hammanat.
This one well was dug at great costs in lives and is
in the only location found to have pure water in the
entire region. It has been blessed by the priests and
must be protected if Hammanat is to succeed as Pharaoh
intends.
Mentuhotep
has charged you to build this vast city from a tiny
village in the desert to populate a new Egypt that has
lost so many in the recent struggle. The presence of
such a large city will discourage the Libyans and others
from exploiting our recent internal conflict. You
will be able to do some limited farming near the Oasis,
as it is watered by seasonal run off from the nearby
mountains. Also, Osiris has blessed the great Nile,
so many cities will sell much grain and food to feed
your growing city.
Because
Mentuhotep knows of your great skills as an engineer
he has made a condition that that you must give water
to all citizens who will live in this great city. If
any are to be found in thirst, you will find yourself
as a caravan master's slave. If you succeed and please
Mentuhotep, perhaps your family will be restored to
favor and again be the chief engineers of Pharaoh.
To
help you get started, Mentuhotep has graciously
arranged sale of your remaining home to provide you
with funds needed to build the new city of Hammanat.
I
wish you good luck!
Explanations:
Please Read Carefully!
- all
houses with inhabitants must have water
carrier access; industry and service buildings are
not considered housing.
- The
submitted city - after deleting all houses without
water carrier access - will be run for 6 months without
intervention. Then all houses without water carrier
access will be deleted and the population and city
funds counted.
- Only
the one water supply provided is allowed; no wells
allowed. Although you may build houses without
water carrier access during the play, you do so at
your own risk. All such houses must be deleted before
you submit your game. If the jury finds a few houses
that could have lost access just in the moment you
saved, jury may decide to overlook it and just delete
them; but any houses obviously without water carrier
access for a longer time mean invalid result and no
points for this event.
-
You are supposed to submit a city where all houses
have water! Amount of houses that lose water supply
access during the test phase of 6 months has no influence
on validity, only on final result.
- Hint:
Message announcing "granite price increase by
1 Db" is reminder for required December save
and is not part of game play.
