pyramid.jpg (1125 bytes) Sit down, my friend and let me tell you about this terrible misfortune that has befallen me. You know there is nothing better than a cup of beer after a hot day. And, my friend, I am learning the hard way it would be best to stop with one.

Two weeks ago, on a very hot day, I stopped by the Senet House to have a few beers on my way home from Pharaoh's Court. It was a very hot day, I was tired and I drank very many beers that day. And you know how I can talk when I am .. enjoying myself. There were a great many important men there that day, playing senet and drinking beer, but none drank as much as me, I am afraid.

It seems that I was boasting about my capabilities as governor, bragging that I was favored by Pharaoh because of my many successes and achievements. Oh, how I did talk! Whatever another had done, I had done it better. There was one particular man there who kept asking me questions and presenting imaginary problems to solve and you better believe it, I had an answer for everything! By the end of the evening, when my son finally got me to leave, I hardly recognized myself, from all the loud talk and of course, the beer.

Several days later this same man visited me. He came to make arrangements for my new assignment. It seems in my drunken stupor I made a bet with an Official of the Court that I would be able to found a city so very quickly, that it would be ready in one year's time to respond to any requests for any commodity, no matter whether produced in the city or imported!

Oh, my friend it is true. My son verified I had made this awful bet, and I am to receive a handsome sum of money above my yearly income, should I be successful. And there is more, for I said I would never drink another beer in this lifetime or in the next if I failed. This Official was accompanied by another man and a mysterious woman. My son says they travel around to all the Senet houses and provoke people into making these bets. There will be many more people set on these tasks and the fastest one will be chosen for some very high post in Pharaoh's court. Oh, but it is a sweet deal for them, they get many cities founded in unpopulated areas and trade established for the glory of Egypt.

So, pour me one more cup of beer, my dear friend. I have to soon leave -- I have one year to build a city ready for a storm of requests that will surely come.

  • requests are not weighted; each commodity has the same affect on the Kingdom Rating based on your response.
