The number of raw materials has been greatly increased from C3 and therefore the variety of finished goods is larger as well. There are many items only available by using the right combination of resources. Resources include Gems, Trees, Limestone, Stone, Gold and Reeds. Workers turn Reeds into papyrus which is required for Libraries, Academies and Schools. Weavers convert linen into clothing and embalmers who create burial clothes.

Trees and reeds are examples of resources that are cut down and regrow after a period of time. In C3, you could place a lumber mill near one or two trees and generate a constant supply of wood. In Pharaoh, this is no longer possible since once a tree is cut down, it takes a number of years before it regrows. Reeds and possibly other resources will work the same way.

Housing levels are similar to C3 – there are still 20 levels of housing and the higher level houses require many goods and services. Obviously, water is an essential resource and being close to the Nile is essential to having a source of water. However, mosquitoes breed on the Nile and carry the dreaded malaria disease. The health of your city is looked after by certain citizens who use insect repellant to control the bugs. Other things required by high-level housing are beer, jewelry, clothing, education and entertainment.

Entertainment is provided by placing plazas which support either one, two or three stages based on their size. Some of the acts are jugglers, dancers and musicians who are all trained at their respective schools.

Statues and gardens are still in the game and provide the same usefulness they did in C3.
