This mission requires Cleopatra

The Rock Pool
By Trevor Hall

Times are not as great as they were in the good old days of our empire.
War rages north of Egypt. Many of the luxury goods are difficult to find, with few traders willing to travel through a war zone.

Some cities refuse to trade with us, and even taunt us with threats.

Pharaoh wishes to solidify the northern border, Capturing the city of Quadash from the warring hoards. This is not so easy, as the journey is difficult.

There is am area near the city of Jericho, with room for an inland harbor. The terrain is mostly mountainous, a landscape interjected with huge rocks, and some plateaus.

Amongst the rocky cliffs, there is ample space for a burial tomb. This is an excellent subterfuge. I suggest that you deter robbers from the tomb by building a sphinx first.

Build a city, proceeding as if to make a magnificent town to support the construction of this burial tomb, but quietly build up a navy, ready for Pharaoh’s needs.

Travelers from the area call it the "Rock Pool", probably referring to the small lake in the middle of the rocks, where some entrepreneurs pan for gold. Perhaps Egyptian mining engineers can do better, but I would not expect the richest pickings.

There are forests of trees by the water, these being an excellent grade for forming tools of war, such as ships and chariots. There is a particular shortage of war chariots at the moment allowing you to sell them at a premium. You'll have to scout the area for other resources. Our ambassadors are trying diplomatic means to open more trade to the area, but progress is slow.

Fortunately, the hostile terrain, with great advantage to the defender, deters the casual invader, but you should always be on your guard.

Prime building land is at a premium, but we must impress our enemy with the skills of the Egyptians, so make a bold effort to attract 5500 people to your city, some living in palaces, leaving our enemy in complete awe as we crush them.

Unfortunately I have very little funds to offer, and will expect tribute, so spend wisely.

There is ample food for the masses, but you may need to keep some of the better food from the workforce, and reserve it for the rich. You see, we want to give the impression of a huge city, not just a naval base.
