Author's Description:

Cyprus

Cypriot Cold War- by Stringbags

It is the year 300BC in the reign of Ptolemy II and an uneasy peace
sits on and around the Mediterranean like a thunder cloud in a summer
sky. Alexander the Great is dead, but the legacy of his achievments
live on in the sentinal figure of the monumental lighthouse at Pharos.

The fragile truce hangs heavy in the air in Enkomi, and as the
Chancellor of all Cyprus the burden of peacekeeper is sometimes
impossible to bare. Trade is thriving now, but the rival factions that
have developed are capricious and trade treaties are broken for the
smallest incedent. It is a tiresome task at times, trying to keep
everyone happy, we are only a small island race and the imports and
exports are lifeblood to our people. I fear that only the Libyans at
Kyrene will stay loyal to the treaty and that is only because they
are desperate for wood.

Ptolemy II has asked us to build similar lighthouses to that at Pharos
on the promontorys to the west of the island to protect his trade and
warships in the Mediterranean, this is a hard task to undertake, but
we must endevour to do as he asks or our future will be awash with
blood and tears.

But we are a proud people and we will do everything in our power to
build a city that will be the envy of many nations and we will hold
our heads high and say "we did that".
