The Hidden City - by Spemb
It is a time of great turmoil in Egypt. Successions of mediocre Pharaohs, caring only for personal glory, have squandered the resources available to them and left entire cities to decay. This has angered the gods, and they have turned their backs on the Egyptian people.
Mighty sandstorms have also lashed the region, and their wrath has seen cities swallowed whole. Foreign enemies now scorn Egypt, and while their attitude is insulting, it is also fortunate, for the fear of invasion is remote, though the occasional demand for goods is still made with threats of reprisal for those who fail to comply.
Now Pharaoh Djoser has risen to power. He is a kind man, and because of the actions of previous rulers has known much suffering himself. He wishes to restore the majesty of Egypt, and gain the respect of the people, while rekindling the gods favours. To this end, his most valiant explorers were sent to search for a site worthy of a new, and industrious city.
They returned with news of a site suitable for such a city, and it has been named "Rowarty". Now Pharaoh charges you with the task of creating a new metropolis where he may one day be laid to rest.
Rowarty is indeed an excellent site. Resources are abundant, and you should forge relationships with the various trading cities in the region. Rowarty is fortunately surrounded by cliffs, so the threats from sandstorms will pose no problems, though trade may suffer occasionally.
Beware the gods. They do not hold you in high esteem and may make life difficult for you, so remember to show ample respect.
Pharaoh cannot provide a huge sum of money to help begin this city, and the initial years may prove taxing, but he believes that given the resources available to you, a thriving, beautiful and prosperous city can be constructed.
Pharaoh is not always a model of benevolence though, and in a petulant streak has demanded a substantial quantity of sandstone be obtained. This will not be easy, as all known supplies of this material have been exhausted. Perhaps some new trading partners? It is also expected that some foreign places will make unreasonable requests of you, and Pharaoh will not take kindly to you giving in to them, regardless of the consequences of non-compliance.
Now, make haste, for the future of Egypt lies in your capable hands.

GAMEPLAY NOTES.
I have tested this map, and it works fine. Some may find it a little difficult (i did myself) initially, but in the spirit of the story, things get better. If anything, I kinda wanted this mission to lend itself to be played slowly anyway, so take your time and have fun.
There is a trick to this level, and through cunning planning of events, hints will be dropped. Also, wage rises will seem to happen a lot, don't get discouraged as they won't go any higher after a certain point.
My own completed city will be in the downloads sections, so check it out, it's the best city I've ever made and it's gonna be hard for me (or you) to match it. :)
Your comments/criticisms are invited. If you have trouble with the map, please email me at stemp@space.net.au so I don't have to post spoilers here.
Thanks and enjoy,
Spemb...
