Gaza Garrison - expert, by Elf

Author's Description:

This is the Gaza Garrison event (expert) from the Pharaoh Cup. Map design by Baltic. An excerpt from his mission description follows: “You may not build any beautification structures. I wanted to disable shrines, but unfortunately the editor does not give this option. Remember, it is not allowed to build shrines!”

The mission’s goals were maximum prosperity rating and maximum population, so the design challenge was how to achieve evolved housing without the use of beautification structures or shrines. To make matters worse there were two chariot forts which could not be deleted, one in the middle of each of the two major land masses, and four additional forts had to be placed. So how to overcome the negative desirability of the forts without using gardens, plazas, statues or shrines?

It was obviously necessary to make use of buildings with positive desirability profiles when constructing housing blocks. Ten manors were evolved in a block using the temple complex and the town palace as primary desirability generators. A spacious apartment block was constructed around the town palace.

Other than these, the buildings which generate the greatest desirability are libraries and these were used extensively (19 of them). They were disconnected from the rest of the city so that the papyrus requirement didn’t break the bank. The chariot fort in the north was essentially surrounded by libraries. Dentists are the most desirable single tile structures and they also were used extensively.

So take a look if you want to see some of the best educated charioteers and the most perfect teeth in the Kingdom.
