Author's Description:

SAUTY in 370 months.

When I started I set a target of 30 years (360 months) for
completing the mission. With 3 pyramids to build I figured
this city was going to take longer than most.

I was 6 years into the mission before I placed the foundation
for the first pyramid. I like to get the city operating and
stabilized first so I will have a ready supply of labor for all
those work camps and masons. Pyramid construction went smoothly
with very little interference from the flood plain workers. Each
pyramid took about six to seven years of game time. Although the
last pyramid was finished in 340 months I wasn't ready to finish
yet. Removing the construction industries gave me room for a
second Stately Manor block on a map that didn't have to much
room to spare. By the time this was completed and working
smoothly I had passed the target date by 10 months.

For a while I had toyed with the idea of going for a few
Palatial Estates even though they were not required. But I soon
gave up that idea as the imported chickpeas were barely enough
to support the one housing block that was using them. I settled
for 17 Stately Manors in 2 blocks. All manors are on the west
bank with the pyramids, and the worker housing is across the
river. I kept them separated from the east bank to keep the food
delivery and granary "get" carts from wandering all over the
map.

I was pleased with the final result. A well-organized city
with an attractive layout and plenty of statues to pretty it
up. After saving the final I reloaded and ran it for a couple
of years and it seems stable.

Very well done Gomericus. I was very impressed with your Sauty, especially your completion time. (It took me 412 months to complete this mission the first time that I played it.)

If anyone is looking for a city that was laid out by someone who really knows how to play this game, a better example would be hard to find. The 5 housing blocks that Gomericus used are well placed and almost fully developed. The locations of the 3 pyramids are attractive and efficient, as are the farms and storage and distribution facilities.

The PR and KR are both 100%. The CR is 70% (the minimum required) due to a “poor” rating for libraries, but this was obviously done by choice. Gomericus had the funds and resources to build more libraries. The CR in Pharaoh is very harsh, and building all of the facilities required for higher ratings can give a city an unbalanced look. Rather than building 2 or 3 libraries in every housing block, many choose the path the Gomericus took.

I only have one criticism, and it is probably undeserved. There are 5 slums (huts) in this city that were placed to provide worker access for industries. IMHO, an “ideal” city would provide all labor from the developed housing blocks. This is just a personal preference, and does not lessen my appreciation for what Gomericus has accomplished. All in all, this city is superior to my submission of Sauty. I was very pleased with my Sauty when I submitted it, but I have learned a lot since then. I will have to play this mission again someday and see if I can do as well as Gomericus.
