My goals in a mission are a little different than most that I’ve seen. I won’t go into detail here, but you should read my description of Bubastis if you want to understand what my design is all about.
This was not my favorite mission, and is definitely not my best city. Space here is very limited, and there isn’t much room for a creative design or an attractive layout. This was my first try at Sauty, and I didn’t do too badly. I think that the completion time of 412 months is pretty good, and the scores are all perfect, so I decided to post it anyway. I could definitely do better if I played it again, but I want to move on.
This submission does have two unique features. First, I wanted to do something “special” with the three pyramids that you have to build. Space is very limited, but I found a spot where I could build all three together in a “V” shape. It really looks good. This was also a good idea for the construction schedule. All three being in the same location gave me an advantage during construction.
Second, although they are not required for this mission, I thought that it would be quite a challenge to develop Palatial Estates here. Space is limited, you can only produce one type of food, and you have to import the second luxury good. The luxury good import is more difficult than usual, because luxury goods are also your best export, and you can’t import AND export luxury goods at the same time. I ended up with 4 Palatial Estates in the completed city, and am very proud that I could do it.
Although this mission was a challenge (and I always enjoy that), I had way too much time with nothing to do except watch the construction on the pyramids. I spent “years” running the game at 100% just to speed things along, and I normally play 90% of a mission at 10% game speed. If I didn’t have to throw a festival to the Gods every once in a while to keep them happy, the mission could have completed itself the last 5 or 6 years without me even being there.
By the way, although I didn’t give any gifts to the City or Kingdom, I did decide to collect a Pharaoh’s salary for most of this mission. (I have grand plans for Hetepsenusret, and I plan to use all the funds that I’ve accumulated in Sauty and Baki there.)

Player Comment by VitruviusAIA:
What is missing in this city: A year before completion, in April 1508, this city was short 300 workers. I deleted the 10 limestone quarries on the landmass with the pyramids (which I no longer needed). The roads to these quarries are still in place, so you can probably figure out where they were.
I also deleted 6 of the 9 gemstone mines and 8 of the twelve jewelers since I was importing the second luxury good and could not export jewelry any longer. Again, the roads are still there. If you would like to see the April 1508 version with all these still in place, just email me and I will send it to you.
