Byblos was extremely intimidating when I first looked at it, becasue the start up city was so bad. As it transpired, it wasn't too bad and this was basically my first attempt; i restarted from autosave when i realised just how horrible the naval invasion was. I still didn't do terribly well the 2nd time but my land forces were able to hold the fort until eventually all the enemy warships got grounded
What prompted me to send this download was because the gurus strongly recommended that you use towers, and as can be seen on this map, i didn't use any. Nor do I think there was the need for them the way there was on Kebet or Mirgissa. My forces, academy trained from the start easily handled all the invasions. I think perhaps a well balenced set of companies might have helped there.
Seth and Bast are key throughout the game here. Bast kept people happy throughout the game despite rampant unemployment [hence the courthouse park] and always blessed my bazaars; therefore it was simple to keep everyone fed.
Seth's blessings were useful when i sent troops abroad because i knew that he would make sure they would return intact. therefore, i never needed to send that many companies to win the battle. Ptah was useful later in the game because he likes to give you lots of flax and linen.
my only regret- i never got round to replacing the central slum which is nowehere near any water.
