Author's Description:

Men-Aten progressive saves, from contest #2

Included: Feb, June, and October of year 1

There are many good ways to crash-start a trading city. These three saves trace the early months of one approach which was fairly effective.

Please note that these are saves from the early months of a contest city, and contain a few elements that wouldn't be ideal in a city played for fun or for aesthetic satisfaction.

Namely:
With the exception of the 4 housing squares on the central island, no residences on this map were ever allowed to develop beyond sturdy hut. This meant that the city hit its final target population much more rapidly than is typical, and all industry could be laid down and staffed by the end of September of its first year.

Trading in this city required significant micromanagement. Unless ships were pulling in to dock, the export limit had to be kept at the total of the goods in the dock storage yard, in order to prevent caravans from attempting to trade there. When ships arrived, the export limits were set down to 0 to empty the dock SY, than raised again as new goods arrived. Personally, I much prefer hands-off designs, but they are more expensive to establish, and hence weren't used in this contest map.

I hope that people finds these saves useful.

Thanks,
