And another old one...the first time round I played Dunqul instead, which was enjoyable. While lounging around in Baki, I decided to give this one a spin. Dakhla was a pleasant term, with lots of money to be made and high housing possible (I developed up to highest Manor level, single source of luxury goods).
Note: I played this one for perfect scores, which explains the long time and the silly score. As I had to build only a single obelisk I had to wiat building this till most of my city had stabelised.
I started by building my initial housing on the wrong side of the map, so I restarted. The block in the SE was the first block I made after gardening off two sets of hyanes. Here I started with farms and wood trade. The second block, NE, was the next and I decided to see if I could get away with making 5 separate segments. Food wasn't a problem, neither were pottery and beer.
The third block was started in the SW and a 4th quickly folowed up North. I tried to share some entertainment schools between the segments which met with mixed results.
Shortly after creating my 5th block (S) I realised I could go all the way up to manor level and trashed most of my 3rd block, tore down and rebuild my TC and restructered it to fit in half a dozen manors. The manor block isn't the most stable I ever build, which I blame on it's rather hit-and-run design.
I imported enough granite for the obelisk and reused the warehouses after planting it close to the temple complex. A carpenter quietly added the scaffolding.
All blocks were slowly brought up to fancy residence level, most with their only little industrial sector. I ended up exporting some more things, mainly some bricks apart from the wood and importing flax, reeds and gems. I added some meat for the manor block, which helped stabelising it somewhat. The temple placement in this block is also quite bad and I kept running out of triple coverage. I also needed a lot of libraries for the culture mark and ended up with 2 Senet houses to get all my rating perfect.
Most festivals were given to Bast, with the odd ones for Ra and Ptah thrown in. Demand for food were easily met by a single storage yard holding 1600 units of grain. There some early requests for bricks and beer and a late one for jewelry. None of these was a real problem, although I got close to missing the brick one.
Once I hit the 100/100/100 mark I build two masons who then finished the obelisk.
I'm not too happy about the large (300+) number of labour shortage, but couldn't be bothered to add more housing. I think I could have reduced the industires a bit, certainly after the many blessings from Bast.
The game was saved just before the obelisk is finished.
