Bedhet is a nice little scenario. I played it when I was a bit bored with Baki and wanted a little diversion. The scores are low because of the lack of dentists, which limits your Culture to 15 and the lack of Courtyards, which keeps your housing level and prosperity down.
What happened?
I started in the South, near the mines and put down the first block, the nearer edge of goldmines and the palace. Of course this got me through my money and workers real quick. The money picked up and I added the chickpea fields, granary and bazaar. One click too much and I was in debt, which was unnecessary.
Population picked up and I built a second block to start import of wood and copper.
The first request hit me just after I started making pottery and when I realised I wasn't going to make it I imported the necessary pottery, a strategy I had to repeat for the next request (beer). This put me some 200Db into debt, but with the abundance of gold mines and shutting down on the imports after complying with the requests got me back in the black real quick
Once I had a fair amount of both wood and copper, I built a shipyard, weaponsmith, barracks and infantry fort. A wharf followed and I expanded by putting in the four ferries, manning them and moving to the two small landmasses. Here I added some more food industry, several more wharfs and my reedgatherers. Once they were moving I started to export papyrus.
By now I'd received a gift of bricks from pharaoh and put down the mastaba. I also added an archery fortress. Once the floor was cleaned I added a bricklayer and got a second gift of bricks. I consolidated the two small settlements and realised I was having a massive (100+) worker shortage. A third (northern) block was added to counter this after I realised I didn't have courtyards. My food supplies were a bit iffy so I added another bazaar to each block.
Soon after that I realised I didn't have to wait for Pharaoh to gift me all this brick, I could actually import the stuff. Now who made those commodity sheets..? I also imported some more food, so it would be distrubuted more evenly. A while later the housing was all to pre-courthouse level. The attack warning turned into a real attack, by two Canaanite ships, that got trounced by the four I had in place, although I did loose one.
The number of imported bricks was low enough for me to decide to stick to one crew of bricklayers for the whole monument. Some stramge things did happen as I've seen a few brickloads just disappear into the mastaba. The bricklayers stood and watched and the count of "Loads needed" didn't decrease. I must have lost at least four loads this way. Nasty.
The Save was made just before the last load of birck was put in, but I think I actually saw two of them get there before the mastaba was deemed finished.
Next time?
Well, I think three warships would be enough to counter the Canaanite threat, as would half the gold mines (if not less) Ground troops don't seem necessary and I'll start importing bricks a lot sooner (using the money invested in copper and forts).
Then with a double crew I can probably have finished a lot quicker.
