Lets divide this section
into two. The first part is more trick than cheat related, the tricks don't directly
influence the result of the game. The second part contains the actual cheats and easter
eggs inside the game, that do influnece the outcome.
Tricks Swapping movies around.
A little bit of harmless fun, especially when done on a friends computer, can be done by
swapping movie files around. How is this done? Well, just follow this simple example where
we swap the "army victorious" and the "city on fire" movies.
1. Browse into your Caesar 3 folder and
open the one labeled "smk"
2. Find the file named "armywin.smk"
3. Rename this file to "armywin.tmp" (ignore messes telling you this might cause
windows to not know what to do with this file anymore.
4. Find the file named "cityfire.smk"
5. Rename this file to "armywin.smk"
6. Go back to the "armywin.tmp" file and rename it to "cityfire.smk"
The next time you (or your friend) starts
up Caesar and a house catches fire the program will show the victorious army movie and the
other way around.
Swapping (or Replacing) Sounds
Of course the same can be done with all the wave files (*.wav)
Cheats Next is a collection of
cheats and a few tricks to make your lif a little (or a lot) easier when playing Caesar
III
The computer won't recognize the existence
of your barracks until it has employees. This means you can create as many as you want,
until one of them gets an employee, which can be easily prevented by not connectecting the
to the road grid.
This is very useful if you're recruiting troops for more than one legion at a time.
Apparently each barracks will service a separate legion. It is unknown whatehr the patch
has fixed this.
Train a legion of javelin troops until
they're two or three troopers short. Next build a fort for a legion of heavy infantry.
Providing troops for this fort will take priority over the javelin troops (if you have
stocked enough weapons). Train them until your two troopers short.
Now build your military academy. The last troopers in each legion will bring them up to
full Academy-trained status considerably faster than running each of the 30 men
through the Academy individually.
Note: This also works when you build an academy after having received losses and are
re-supplying the forts with troops.
When you want to add a building that is
not available in a certain scenario, say a hippodrome, you can do the following.
Save your game and open a game where you can build this particular building. Select it for
building and load your previous game. The building will stick to your cursor and you can
now place it on your map.
Note: Rumour has it this was actually fixed with the patch.
1999.05.16: The rumour has been confirmed...
Remeber those immigrant entry and emigrant
exit markers?
Well, I've been reliably informed that you can use them to mine for iron and marble. Just
put your mines next to them and start digging.
To use this cheat you have to have a well
somewhere on your map.
1. Press ALT-K and click on the well
2. Press ALT-C and you will get a 1000 dinari.
Note: This can't get more than 5000 denari this way. If you already have more than 5000
denari, it will not work.
To use this cheat you have to have a well
somewhere on your map.
1. Click on the well
2. Press ALT-K and click on the button with the question mark ("?")
3. When the new windows shows, press ALT-C.
4. When you close the window you will be immeadiately attacked.
Moquel tells me that invading force is proportionate to the time you keep the ALT-K keys
down, i.e. the longer you hold them down the bigger the attacking force.
If any of you can think up another trick
or finds another cheat please let me know and I'll add it to these pages.
