email: paulv@entrust.comPaul van Oorschot is the Chief Security Architect for Entrust Technologies in Ottawa, recently formed from the Secure Networks division at Nortel. From 1988 to 1996 his work at Nortel involved cryptographic research and consulting, product R&D, and participation in national and international security standards. He has an extensive background in mathematics, cryptography, and industrial security, and an international reputation through journal publications, conference activities, and standards work.
He completed the Bachelor of Mathematics and M.Math degrees in 1984 and 1986 respectively, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo (Canada) in 1988. He has been an Adjunct Research Professor with the School of Computer Science, Carleton University (Ottawa) since 1991, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). He has served as General Chair of Crypto'93 and on program committees including Crypto, Eurocrypt, Asiacrypt, and the ACM Conference on Computer and Communications Security (ACMCCS).
His interests include all practical aspects of information security, including conventional and public key cryptography, especially authentication and key management in distributed systems.
